Transport
The smart card is currently playing an exciting and increasingly vital role to transport solutions. Recent years have seen the introduction of large scale smart card projects, many of which are being driven by an integrated transport agenda through the ideology of ITSO.
A true example of this is the English National Concessionary Travel Scheme which will be implemented from April 2008 onwards, where all those over 60 years old and the disabled will be entitled to free off peak travel across England.
ITSO was founded in 1998 as a result of discussions between various UK Passenger Transport and Government Authorities concerning the lack of suitable standards for inter-operable smartcard ticketing. ITSO is a broadly based member-controlled organisation, including PTE's, Local Authorities, Passenger Transport Operators and Suppliers of equipment, systems and services. ACT joined ITSO in 2003, recognising the increasing demand for an integrated transport system, which offers an improved level of customer service. In order to satisfy this growing demand for integrated transport, we embarked on designing and building a range of ITSO products and services to address this market and compliment our citizen products.
