The English National Concessionary Travel Scheme and ITSO

Click here to read about the ITSO Services Limited HOPS (AMS).

The Department for Transport (DfT) and ITSO are this year improving the way concessionary travel works throughout England.  From April 2008, all those aged 60+ and the disabled will receive free off-peak travel on local bus services.

Local authorities will still be free to offer their passengers more than the national concession, this may include cases where buses do not operate frequently and taxis are substituted or where peak validity or other modes are offered.  Changes will also be made in the way that local authorities pay; from April 2008 onwards it will be the local authority where the traveller boards the bus who will pay, not the concessionaires own local authority paying for their travel outside their home area.

To support the 2008 bus concessionary travel scheme a new national pass will be issued to all concessionaires.

A large number of Transport Concessionary Authorities have elected to use the ENCTS ITSO enabled Cardholder Management Service from ACT.
